Macomb Twp. Chiropractic Chiropractors Reveal Causes and Treatments for 3 Common Headache Types

A large number of people suffer with headaches every day, but all headaches are not same. No matter what the type of headache they most always affect the headache sufferer’s life in a negative way.  Knowing the kind of headache one has can ensure proper diagnosis and treatment because the differences between headaches can be very distinct, but sometimes this difference is very subtle.

“There are many types and causes of headaches and main way to differentiate between headaches is to know the different symptoms associated with each kind of headache”, says Dr. Chris McNeil Macomb Twp. Chiropractic Clinic Director.

A tension headache is characterized by tightness on both sides of head and sometimes accompanied by the tightness in neck. It can last from 30 minutes to several days. Tension headaches can affect people of all ages

Two main causes of tension headaches can be from a major trauma, like a sports injury or car accident, or from a minor trauma like a repetitive job or poor posture. Major or minor trauma can put significant tension on the nerves, muscles and joints of the neck and create the symptoms of a tension headache.

Symptoms of a tension headache include tightness around the head and neck with a headache that radiates like a hat band.  Common treatments of tension headaches may be medication, heat therapy and chiropractic treatments.

A very large number of people get affected by migraine headaches every year, and 75% of these people are women. Migraine headaches are characterized by severe pain in head and 60% of the sufferers feel pain in one side of the head. Migraines are most prevalent between the age group of 45-64 years and tend to run in families.

“Migraine headaches can also be caused by nerve, muscle and joint tension, but other factors like hormones, diet and genetics can play a part” said Dr. Chris McNeil Chiropractor Macomb MI.

Symptoms of a migraine headache may include nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound. Treatments for a migraine headache may include strong prescription medication that often has side effects, sleeping, chiropractic treatments or dietary changes.

Cluster headaches are usually located in the eye region. The reason why these kinds of headaches are called Cluster headaches is that they occur three to four times a day in a short duration of time. This is an excruciating type of headache typically experienced by men between the ages of twenty to fifty years.

Cluster headaches can be caused by chemical stress from medication, msg or, artificial sweetener. “Cluster Headaches can also be caused by mechanical spinal cord tension, depression or anxiety,” says Dr. Frank Norton. Symptoms of a cluster headache can include sharp stabbing pain around the eye, nasal congestion and eye redness and irritation. Remedies for cluster headaches may include dietary changes, breathing exercises, medication and chiropractic care.

No matter what type of headache one may suffer from they almost always have a negative effect on one’s life.  From problems sleeping, working or spending time with family, finding out what type of headache and the proper treatment can most often make dramatic positive changes in a person’s life!

Many people that suffer from sciatica do not know what causes this common problem or what can be done to fix the cause of their sciaticaMacomb Township Chiropractic Chiropractors Chris McNeil and Franklin Norton have state of the art therapy that can often correct the cause of the sciatic pain.

The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the human body. Sciatic radiculopathy is defined as pain that travels into the buttocks and or down the back of the leg along the pathway of the sciatic nerve. Sciatica can travel all the way to the calf.  People can also suffer with numbness in the legs and feet and weakness of the muscles.

The most common cause of sciatica is from a disc bulge or herniation.  Another cause of sciatica is abnormal posture and spinal alignment.

To determine the cause of sciatica the doctors at Macomb Twp. Chiropractic perform a detailed consultation to discuss when and how the sciatica began, an examination with orthopedic testing, X-rays and MRI.

Chiropractors at Macomb Township Chiropractic clinic may have the therapy and treatments to take the pressure off of the sciatic nerve and to help the body heal.  Disc Decompression Therapy is used to reduce disc pressure on the sciatic nerve.  Postural rehabilitation technique is used to attempt to restore a normal postural and spinal position to relieve joint and sciatic nerve pressure, but also can help to relive disc pressure.

For the residents that live in Macomb Twp. or Macomb County who are suffering with back pain, sciatica, leg pain, numbness or muscle weakness visit www.metrodetroitchiropractors.com or contact Macomb Township Chiropractic at 586-566-2273.

If you suffer from back pain and you live in or near Macomb Township Michigan, Macomb Twp. Chiropractic is a Chiropractic Clinic and Disc Decompression Therapy Center that can help you get out of pain and heal quicker.

Macomb Township Chiropractic prides itself on being one of the most advanced chiropractic rehab centers in Macomb County and in Michigan. Macomb Township Chiropractic Chiropractor Chris McNeil was the first chiropractor in Michigan to certify in Chiropractic Bio-Physics, which is the most researched and published of any of the hundreds of chiropractic techniques in the chiropractic profession. This advanced technique is somewhat of a mix of physical therapy and chiropractic care.  Nick named Chiropractic rehab; CBP (or Clinical Bio-mechanics of Posture) uses specific spinal and postural x-ray analysis, postural analysis, postural adjustments and postural traction to remodel the spine and posture closer to a normal and healthy position. Macomb Township Chiropractor Dr. Franklin Norton gravitated towards this rehabilitative technique because it was a way he could help prevent his younger brother from having scoliosis surgery, as did his sister.

When the spine and posture become misaligned from the normal healthy position, weather from a major trauma (such as a car accident) or a minor repetitive trauma (such as working on an assembly line) the pressure and stress builds up on the muscles, joints, discs and nerves and can leaded to pain and other spinal injuries. This nerve, joint or disc pressure can be minimized or eliminated through the rehabilitative techniques at Macomb Twp. Chiropractic, thus relieving and correcting the cause of the pain.

In addition to performing CBP spinal rehab in the clinic, Macomb Twp Chiropractic offers non-surgical disc decompression therapy.  In fact, it’s one of the first clinics in Michigan who perform disc therapy and CBP together. These are two of the most innovated and advanced chiropractic methods to help people with not only back pain nut many other spinal related problems too.

Disc therapy is non-invasive procedures by which a special treatment table that’s connected to a computer allows the doctors to gently separate the bones in the spine and allows a suction within the bulging, herniated or degenerated discs. This suction allows the damaged disc material to be pulled back into the disc and off of the spinal cord and spinal nerves.  Disc Decompression therapy is a very effective treatment for those people who suffer with back pain, sciatic, neck pain, arm pain and numbness related to bulging, herniated or degenerated discs.

The combination of these two advanced and innovative rehabilitative treatments greatly speeds up the doctors ability at Macomb Twp. Chiropractic to not only get a person out of pain, but to help avoid injections, surgery and the back pain from returning.

Every year Macomb Twp. Chiropractic gets involved with community outreach and helps to raise money for a worthy cause in their community.   Typically during the holiday season the doctors and staff will try to raise money and collect gifts for those children who are less fortunate than many of the children in our community by doing a toy drive fund raiser.

“This July, working together with Helping Hands Gifts, Macomb Township Chiropractic is throwing a fund raising event called Christmas in July,” said Chris McNeil Macomb Township Chiropractic Chiropractor.  For the friends and family of their current patients, or other residents in Macomb County, Macomb Township Chiropractic has a special Pain Relief Package, and a portion of proceeds will go to benefit needy children in Macomb County during Christmas time this year.

The pain relief package is for those who suffer with back pain, disc bulge or herniation, neck pain or headaches and includes a 1 on 1 consultation with the doctor to discuss the current pain issue, a health history review, spinal and disc examination, 2 –X-rays, the 1st treatment and 1 hour massage. The total value of all of these services is normally $210,  but with the Christmas in July promotion until the end of July all of those services are only $79.  Plus, a portion of that $79 will be donated to Helping Hands Gifts which will benefit the needy children of Macomb County at Christmas time. New and current patients are also urged to donate a new toy which will be given to Helping Hands to give away this Christmas.

After the doctor reviews the test results and x-ray films he will be able to let the person who is suffering know what’s causing the pain, if they can help and how long it could take to fix the problem. If it’s something they can’t help that is causing the pain, the doctors will refer the patient to a specialist who may be able to help the problem.

Macomb Township Chiropractic Offers Massage Therapy for Neck & Back Pain Relief

Massage Therapy at Macomb Township Chiropractic can not only help to relieve stress on the body and the mind, but it can also help improve chiropractic care and treatment outcomes.

When a person has neck or back pain, there are usually muscle spasms as well.  This is typically because of disc or joint pressure causing irritation to the nerves that go to those tight muscles.

Massage therapy can help to reduce muscle tension and spams which can impede a person’s ability to achieve optimum disc healing as well as spine and posture correction,” said Macomb Township Chiropractor Chris McNeil.

The chiropractor’s job is to reduce the pressure on the nerves going to the muscle that is in spasm, by using chiropractic treatments and other therapies to restore the spine and posture to a more normal and healthy position, and reduce the pressure from the joints and discs.

At times the chiropractor may utilize other therapies to assist in restoring the normal spinal and postural position. Massage is one of the therapies that the chiropractor often uses in conjunction with chiropractic treatments.

Massage therapy can help to relieve muscle spasms, or trigger points, caused by nerve pressure so the body is looser and more flexible.  This will ultimately allow the chiropractic treatments to be more effective and long lasting.

Macomb Township Chiropractic Chiropractors Chris McNeil and Franklin Norton specialize in two advanced and specialized techniques that greatly increase chances of neck pain, back pain and disc pain suffers to fully cover, and now they have added massage therapy to their arsenal of therapeutic procedures.

One of the specialized chiropractic rehab techniques the Macomb Township Chiropractors perform is call Clinical Biomechanics of Posture. This method of care mixes traditional chiropractic techniques with physical therapy and specific postural rehab to re-train the spine and posture closure to a normal and healthier position.

Another therapy performed in the clinic to assist in the healing of bulging, herniated or degenerated discs and is called non-surgical disc decompression therapy.   This gentle procedure uses specialized equipment to separate the bones of the spine to create a negative pressure or suction within the damaged disc. This suction can reverse the damaging effects of disc bulges or herniation by pulling the disc material back into its proper potion and off the spinal cord and nerves.

It also helps to revive degenerated discs and increases the disc space to release nerve pressure.

Along with massage therapy the doctors may use heat, stretching, ultrasound or vibration therapy to reduce muscle spasms for a more effective treatment.

If you are a resident of Macomb Township or Macomb County, and you are suffering with back pain, sciatica, neck pain, headaches, auto accident injuries, disc bulge or disc herniation, Macomb Township Chiropractic may be able to help you get you out of pain and back to your life.

Ferndale and Macomb Township Chiropractors Chris McNeil, Frank Norton and Peter Anderson Diagnose and Treat Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Auto Accident Patients

When people are involved in an auto accident there are a lot of different injuries that can happen.  The most common injuries that are treated at Metro Detroit Chiropractors auto injury clinics in Macomb Twp and Ferndale MI are: neck pain, back pain, disc injuries, sciatica, headaches and numbness.  However, there is a common injury that is often undetected and undiagnosed for many injured in an accident, and it can have devastating effects on a person’s life.  This injury is called traumatic brain injury or TBI.

During an auto accident there can be a rapid acceleration and deceleration. A rapid acceleration can occur when you are sitting at a red light or stop sign and you suddenly get rear ended. This causes your body to rapidly accelerate in milliseconds.  A rapid deceleration happens when you are driving and suddenly the traffic in front of you stops and you come to a crashing halt.  During a rapid acceleration or deceleration the forces on a body are extreme. “Not only can these forces cause ligament sprains, muscle strains, disc bulges and herniations, but they can also cause damage to one’s delicate brain tissues,” said Dr. Frank Norton at Macomb Twp Chiropractic.

As the body and head whip around during the impact the brain bounces around inside of the skull.  The delicate brain tissue is easily damaged which can cause a multitude of symptoms. Some of the common symptoms associated with a traumatic brain injury are: memory loss, headaches, dizziness, balance problems, vision disturbances, speech problems, ringing in the ears, sleep disturbances, problems focusing or concentrating, anger, anxiety and depression.

“After an initial diagnosis of TBI our doctors can refer the patient to a specialist for further diagnostic testing and treatment” says Chris McNeil, Chiropractor and Macomb Twp and Ferndale Chiropractic clinic director.  A neurologist can perform an EEG or order an MRI to determine if a brain injury occurred. The neurologist may also prescribe medications to help relieve some of the symptoms the patient may be experiencing.  A neuro-psychologist can perform a cognitive assessment to find deficits in brain and cognitive function.  Physical or Occupational therapy can be prescribed to perform cognitive, speech and balance therapy.  Neuro Quant MRI performs volumetric analysis and can be ordered to determine if any brain atrophy has occurred over time as a result of the TBI. Lastly, chiropractic treatments can help reduce headaches and other symptoms.

“Patients suffering from a TBI can have different levels of severity, from simple forgetfulness to stabbing headaches and disorientation” said Dr. Peter Anderson of Metro Detroit Chiropractors in Ferndale MI.  From lost sleep to inability to work and care for themselves or their family members, the many symptoms associated with TBI take a hearty toll on ones life.  Often time’s people with traumatic brain injury are need of a medical case manager to assist the patient in scheduling transportation and doctor’s appointments. The case manager can also gather records from different doctors and provide them to the insurance adjuster or to the patients attorney. In severe cases of TBI the patient may even need to live and an assisted living facility staffed with nurses and occupational therapist to assist with rehabilitation and the activities of daily living.

Traumatic brain injury is very common and should be taken very seriously. Unfortunately, going to the wrong doctors can cause a missed diagnosis which could lead to a permanent brain injury.

Contact the nearest www.MetroDetroitChiropractors.com  clinic to schedule an appointment if you believe you or a family member has a TBI that  is not getting the proper testing and care.
